Have you ever thought how medium as a platform has been providing with so many budding writers a room to grow? Or how the content writing industry has evolved over the years.

Not only medium but many other platforms have been doing the same since the past few years. The industry which was mere a passion for some has now turned into the major money making business. Today let’s talk about how content writing industry has placed itself among others.

Good content always prevails

We all know how our attention span has drastically reduced over the years. There was once a time when we could sit for a three hour long movie but now even those are shortened. In order to get popular what one requires is just a talent of mere few seconds. The same goes with reading. None of us truly ever read a whole book or a long essay in one sitting. We break it and then often forget what we read last.

This has also been observed in many blogs as well. There are more chances of people viewing the blog if it has videos and images. Nowadays around 58% of the people just skim through blogs rather than actually reading it. Many people who are presently reading this will just scroll down to the facts or would have already done that before. You know who you are.

Even Medium provides us with three categories in the option of stats. These are Views, Reads and Fans. This clearly states that how many people just scrolled down through your article and how many people actually read it. The fans come in the end. You have to read it fully in order to appreciate.

In the competition between short attention span and generating more clicks good content always loses the battle. Either no one reads it or it sometimes fails to generate more clicks. Below are few of the statistics which clearly tell us how content writing has taken the shape that it has today.

  • Content writer is the most searched job in India according to a research done by India Today.
  • The monthly average for content marketing jobs has projected a maximum growth of 1171.52 percent from 2015 to 2018 in India. Source : India Today
  • 78% of the consumers believe that organizations providing custom made content are interested in building good relationships. Source: Key Difference Media.
  • According to reports by Dragon search Marketing 61% of consumers are influenced by custom content.
  • Almost two-third of marketers produce at least one new content every single day. [Source: e Marketer]
  • According to SnapApp interactive content is big business and will definitely get bigger.
  • Content offers amazing long term Return on Investments which means one in ten blog posts’ organic search increases over time by HubSpot.
  • It takes 68% more time to write a blog than it used to in 2014 according to Smartinsights.

Obviously the content writing now is going to take more effort because it takes time to go deeper into keyword research. All of these statistical facts show us how content writing as an industry grew with respect to time and technological changes. Now if you look at a particular content it seems to be more SEO friendly rather than just the writer’s creative juices flowing in. Even people and companies are now demanding content which appears on the first page of Google. With each company and individual demanding more click rates this has become the face of content writing industry .

A lot could go wrong in just publishing the content for the sake of it. A good content with extensive keyword research, creativity and a different perspective makes its way into the good books of content writing industry. Yes with other emerging fields such as Graphic Designing, Public policy content writing is surely to become the new cool for the Millennials as well as Gen Z. Just make sure that while you are on it don’t get fooled by a good content and a click through content. Both of them are the two opposite poles.
